site news archive - firefox and alternate stylesheets
12th December 2004 - 17:08
In a news update on the 8th of October I commented on the fact that neither firefox or opera seemed to persist alternate stylesheets. By default they still don't. Firefox 1.0 even removed the alternate stylesheet switcher that used to be on the status bar in the bottom right corner.
Earlier today while catching up on the CSS Discuss list I saw someone talking about a firefox extension that restored the button in the bottom corner. Not only that but it also persists stylesheets, meaning that for those that have it installed, alternate stylesheets actually become useful, at last.
The extension is available from http://olab.free.fr/OLab/. The site is in french, but the names of the extensions are in english. The one you are looking for is the stylesheet chooser plus, it's about half way down the page. When installed you can come back here and play with my funky menu, using it throughout the site, rather than just on the page you selected it on.
