site news archive - firefox extensions
23rd December 2004 - 23:37
In a couple of the last news updates I've mentioned the use of firefox extensions, particuarly the stylesheet chooser. That isn't the only extension I have installed though and in an effort to avoid making the others feel left out I'm going to let you all know what they are.
ieview
IEView simply adds a "View in IE" option to the context menu of pages and links. It has been useful in testing this site, particuarly since setting firefox as my default browser, and for the occasional site that doesn't work properly in firefox. Much easier than copying the link, opening IE and pasting.
sage
Sage is a small lightweight news aggregator that sits in a firefox sidebar; yep, I've started using RSS feeds myself. It's nice and simple to use, whenever you see one of the orange feed icons in the bottom corner click it, select the feed and save into the sage feeds folder. Simple as that. You then open the sidebar click the refresh button at the top and it'll show you which have new items you haven't yet looked at.
web developer
Where do I start, if you're doing any sort of web development, install this. The website has more information and can explain far better than I could, have a look.
stylesheet chooser plus
It's debatable how "useful" this one is, but I like it anyway. It restores the stylesheet selection icon in the bottom corner of the status bar, something which disappeared in firefox 1.0, and it persists the stylesheet selection, so if you've changed it to one you like, the whole site will use it, which is something firefox has never done natively.
The site is in french, but just click on the name of the extension to install it.
Links to all these will be appearing on the links page as well when I get round to adding them.
